Happy Birthday, Babies

Or not so much babies anymore...

IMG_1906

Two years old today. Tearing around the house, all mischief and giggles. Miss Scarlet is picking up new words every day, though not so much with the sentences. She can however mimic my exuberant "hi guys" greeting to her and Blu, and even the come hitherish "hey baby" greeting to Dean with perfection. Blu is still pretty much in babble zone. I'd say he has about 10-12 words and the only one that is properly enunciated is "hat." We're plugging along though. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little heartbroken when I hear of other newly two year olds talking in sentences already (yes you, Miss Nica) - but I'm not so terribly worried that it keeps me up at night. The truth is, I like the babble. It's freakin' adorable. Once it goes, it's gone forever, and with it a certain amount of cuteness. So I'm ok with it. Really.

I haven't been reading any What To Expect books for toddlers lately, so I have to say I'm a little in the dark on where they are developmentally other than speech. Checkup is on Monday though, so I'll hear if there's anything more to worry about. We haven't really started potty training, but there is a potty that floats around the house and they know what it is and that pants go down before you sit on it. No pressure. They do tell me when they've pooped though (for Blu, that's "poot"), which cracks me up every time.

We do have a bit of a weight problem, and this one does keep me up at night. Miss Scarlet is barely over twenty pounds. Blu is at 24. It's not for lack of feeding them or even feeding them good fats. There have been a lot of ear infections lately and a lot of teething and that makes for not so much eating. My little peanuts. There are one year olds out there bigger than you.

We've started playing around with baby yoga - which just amazes me. A friend was over and out of the blue started asking them to do yoga poses with her and they DID. Instantly. With precision. Blu's downward dog is perfect - down to the fact that his feet are flat on the ground. I couldn't ever do that - even after two years of yoga. Crazy.

Happy Birthday Babies. You're awesome.

Happy Birthday kiddos! Certainly not babies anymore, although they sure were cute (and a handful) way back when. Still are!

And a nicely done two years of yeoman's work, momma.

Oh my god - I can't believe they're two already. That's just nuts.

They're beautiful and darling, though, Melanie - you and Dean have done, and continue to do, a truly amazing job as parents.

xo to all of you.

Happy Birthday to your precious babies. I've been reading your blog(s) for awhile now, and I can't believe they're already two. They are adorable. And I agree that you should enjoy the cute babble while it lasts. Once they start talking in sentences and learn how to tell you off, it's not so cute. LOL

Happy Birthday, babies!!!!
They are beautiful....I have smallish babes, too, and they're healthy, but it is still nice to be able to pick them up and carry them if necessary. They grow so fast!

Thank you so much for the update...I was beginning to worry. Don't worry about the gibberish...are you sure it isn't "twin talk"?

Oh happy birthday! You are a wonderful mama to these two precious babes.

Amelie says, "poot," too. Hilarity!

Happy Birthday babies!!! I can't believe they're 2 already, I had to really think about it (wasn't it only last year?? Oh, wait, no... wow.)

Please give them big hugs for me. I loved wrangling around and playing human jungle gym with them last spring, and I miss them (and you!) lots. :)

I was interested to read your blog. As a parent you may be interested in being part of a university study I'm involved with. It’s about how infants and children develop. It wouldn’t take much of your time, and it’s a great way to contribute to knowledge by reporting on your own experiences. For more details go to the following address after copying it into your browser window, www.babyplaystudy.org. Best wishes,Melissa

Happy Belated Birthday, little ones! Your mom is doing a great job loving you! Don't forget that your babies were a little premature, so they may be a little bit behind other babies their chronological age....spoken by a teacher with 34 years experience. Also, twins sometimes develop their own languages in addition to learning yours! LOL, Blogless Mary Lou

Wow, two years! I love the babble too, but my kids don't really do it--and they were all speech delayed. They are so cute! If their diet is good, and they're meeting milestones, don't worry too much about weight. My third was less than 20lbs on her first birthday, but had a huge growth spurt around her second birthday, and by the time she was just past two, she was 30lbs. At least it's easier to keep them rear facing at only 20-24lbs, a lot of people think a 30lb rear facing toddler is crazy, LOL.

My little girl enjoys the video YogaKids ABCs. We got it part of a 2-pack from Target. Each letter has it's own yoga pose. Her entire preschool class does it together when they can't get outside.

Happy belated birthday to your beautiful babies!
