For Mother's Day last year I was treated to the weekend away with my girls at the NH Sheep and Wool Fest. There was a big bin in the booth of Nick's Meadow Farm that had bags of wool for $10 each. I dove in head first. I came out with three bumps of lovely wool that looked pretty darn similar to each other - in a color much akin to morning glories:

Two of the three bumps have been spun up and navajo plied, and they now look nothing alike:

Two lessons have been learned:
1. Dye jobs are rarely consistent
2. I need to practice plying
There has been eating.
Chocolate covered pretzels from Trader Joes and Sweet Potato and Ricotta ravioli and an assortment of cheesecakes including pumpkin with cranberries and chocolate with an orange glaze. Oh. My.
But there has not been much sicky. Only two bouts of sickliness since Oct. 22. That's actually less sickly than earlier this fall and summer while on a gluten free diet. Plus - the second set of blood tests (the first being just high enough for a positive diagnosis) came back unequivocally negative.
At this point I am fairly sure my celiac was a misdiagnosis - the possible result of an overenthusiastic, not-appropriately-skeptical doctor with a celiac diagnosis himself.
It's good. Yes.
Still not looking forward to scopes being stuck into each end of me though. Nov 30th. Think good thoughts for me.

Not the same, but close enough to make a beautiful garment!
How wonderful that you are negative for celiac! Now to find and fix what the real problem is. Good luck with the whole scoping thing.
Glad to hear that you may eat gluten again without fear - bummer you had to avoid it for so long. I am going through my own GI issues at the moment and the many wonderful tests that go along with that. So far they've mentioned Crohn's disease as a possibility, but who knows. Here's hoping they figure everything out soon for you & me!
On one hand, I'm really happy that you don't have celiac in that I'm sure the gluten free lifestyle was NOT cheap or easy to maintain when trying to go out for dinner.
On the other hand, SONOFAB*TCH! I feel very grumbly that they can't figure out what the problem is, because obvs there is a problem, and having the unpredictable sickiness is just lame.
I'll be sending happy thoughts your way on Nov 30th, of course.
Give the babes some smoochies from me, okay?
xo
the spinning looks lovely nonetheless. such pretty colors.
and yay on the negative blood test and being able to eat anything you want.
i hope that the scoping is helpful in finding out what is making you feel sick. and just so you know. joe had the scoping from both ends and he's a big man cry baby. and if he can survive it, it'll be a piece of cake for you. which you can eat now.
So, that begs the question - is it possible that your body actually REQUIRES gluten instead of the opposite?
I'm glad that there has been no sicky. YEA!!! And I know you're not looking forward to the scopes but if it rules it out for certain then it's worth it. I was thinking about you but have been so super busy I haven't had time to breathe let alone email/IM.
Nice skeins! Yay for wheat! Boo for diagnostic scoping and not finding what's wrong.
blue, in almost any rendition -- and especially strong, bordering on purplish renditions -- is very important.
(shall we take back the word 'rendition,' please?)
AND -- this may be oversimplification, but I just realized it about myself and am still learning about it, and may have missed you addressing this earlier -- but, maybe, lactose intolerance? As in, drop anything dairy-based for 2 days and is there a diff? My father-in-law has what he now calls his "ice cream pills": Lactaid.

Thanks for sharing YOUR celiac/gluten free journey. I've begun one myself. Scary, frustrating stuff.
Good luck on the 30th.
p.s. lovely spinning. i needlefelt myself:)
Hooray for spinning and hooray for chocolate covered pretzels! I'm so excited about the anti-celiac prospects! Ignoring the icky scope ideas though.
As all have said - that's great...but then, why'd you have to give it up in the first place and what does it all mean?
I am confused...but happy for you. Fingers crossed for minimal discomfort and best possible outcome.
The two shades of blue look great together! And hurray for your lack of gluten intolerance! Hopefully, they can figure out what the problem is, although diagnosing allergies/intolerances can be hard. My friend laughs about how she spent months thinking her son was just a "pukey kid" before they realized he was allergic to eggs.
I'm glad you haven't been sick lately, but it must be frustrating not to know what's going on. Good luck on the 30th - I'll be thinking of you.
Yay on the negative test results! I hope the booty scope finds the problem in the end. (har har)
It would be a nice way to wrap up the year. Imagine a wheaty 2008! Very cool.
